My Choice My Right Project
The Family Planning Association of India implements the ‘My Choice My Right’ project with the HCL Foundation in the slums of Noida. The project aims to increase awareness and understanding of reproductive health related to healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies. It tries to create a supportive environment for access to contraceptive use, especially among adolescents and young people. The core strategy was to utilise, energise and revitalise the existing service delivery channels — ASHAs, ANM, ICDS workers, etc.
The project plans to implement a comprehensive family planning intervention to strengthen service delivery and create a sustained demand for family planning, especially among young people residing in the 16 slums in Noida, over a period of 60 months and covering a population of 2.4 lakh.
The project have a cadre of 50 community-based providers (CBP) to promote rights-based family planning and sexual and reproductive health Information, basic services and referrals. The CBPs were trained to support informed choice and voluntary decision making among men and women in the reproductive age group, to access and use contraceptives based on their sexual and reproductive health needs. The CBP are supervised by five community organisers in the field, supported by 2 counselors and Project Coordinator.
The project partnered with local health authorities for supply side responsibilities. It mobilised people in the reproductive age group, especially those with an unmet need for family planning, to access reproductive health and family planning services in public health centers.
